Ghost in Mirrors is an ambitious four piece progressive rock band that formed in 2008, fronted by enigmatic French vocalist France Amann, they are appreciated for their prolific approach to live gigs and their ability to connect deeply with their audience on a musical and spiritual level.
Reviewed as an “ambitious debut studio album” by Natasha Scharf for Classic Rock magazine presents PROG (oct 09), their self-released 6 tracks album has already been immensely approved amongst fans, local musicians and local & national press: Classic Rock, Metal Hammer, Glasswerk National, The Gig Guide, Index magazine, The Tonbridge Insider, The Courier Newspaper and radios: TotalRock Radio, Top Rock Radio, Phoenix Radio, BikerFM, BRFM (Wales), Sunset Island (USA), WWPI (USA). They sold over 200 copies of "Ryder’s Dismount" in the first weeks of its release at gigs and at the Tunbridge Wells HMV store.
Over the past year, the band has achieved nothing but rave reviews and a growing fan base, playing over 50 live gigs, releasing their first studio album and supporting bands like Ghostwood from Australia, The Automatic, Belladonna from Italy and The New Republic. They aim to keep working hard, fill bigger venues, play more festivals and keep developing their unique sound, creating and recording new and expressively exiting music.
The band has a simple but effective line up comprising of vocals, synth and glockenspiel (France Amann), drums (Tim), bass guitar (Blake), guitar (Phil Short) and occasionally add backing singers to their live set. For acoustic performances Tim uses a cajon and France plays acoustic guitar.
Commenting on what makes the band unique, vocalist France comments, "We really give it all on stage because we believe in what we play and mean every single note of it! People get dragged into our musical universe when they see us play live, even if it isn’t their favourite style of music, they get into it…I believe it’s because we have created our own sound and are not scared of experimenting with new combinations or sounds or styles,… even after just a year since the band formed, you can already talk about a 'Ghost In Mirrors' sound"
"We love honest music with balls!" Says Phill "Musicians and bands that have a great level of musicianship, that’s why we all love prog rock! But we do disagree about more atmospheric music. France and I are really into that,... bands like 'Sigur Ros' and 'Bat For Lashes'; it’s very quirky and original, sometimes minimalist. We try to include that in our song writing to keep a balance with the heavier sections and it works well with France’s voice. But again, I think that is part of our charisma; it keeps us evolving and keeps our music real."
In June 2009, Ghost in Mirrors won a popularity competition ("You Say, They Play LOTF") and was chosen to play a 30 minute set on the main stage at Kent’s "bestest" music festival "Lounge On The Farm" which took place on the 10-12th July in Canterbury. The band played alongside Prog Rock Legends "Gong", "Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip", "Son of Dave" or "The Horror" and was thrilled to have made its mark on the festival going crowd and being interviewed live on Canterbury CSR radio.
In february 2010 the band has been nominee for the Emerging Talent Awards in both Best Band and Best Live Act Categories. They also been chosen by HMV Tunbridge Wells to headline the HMV Clic-sargent fundraiser at the Forum on 5th of march 2010. Since March 2010, 'Ryder's Dismount" is also available from local music store APE in Tunbridge Wells. They went on a double UK Tour with grammy nominee Belladonna in April and july 2010 across the UK and did their first French Tour in september 2010, playing as a headliner in Paris and received a warm welcome from the french public.
They are spending the winter 2010/2011 is rehearsal studio to write new material and will be recording it over the next year. A live Album has just been released, and the related DVD should be following soon.
